Poetry September 9, 2009

I Wish…

I wish

my black and white

cat

at home in

Cary

could be with

me

in Boone.

1So Much Depends Upon…

So much depends upon

my sleek and shiny iPod touch

the music inside is

a gateway to my soul

the smooth touch screen surface

is a snapshot of emotion all

with one gentle touch.

A look at the past and present

in one small object.

I Poetry-Persona Poetry
  • Persona Poems, Mask Poems, or I Poems are written in the first person where the poet assumes the identity of the poem’s subject.
  • Kucan (2006) suggests inviting students to write “I” poems as a means of deepening their literary understandings of a particular character, setting, or plot from children’s novels.
  • In addition, persona poems (I POEMS) provide the perfect innovation for informational poetry writing.
  • After researching a self-selected topic or one with a curriculum-related focus, students are invited to write about the topic, include specific content (factual information), and develop a sense of wonder or curiosity about the topic through the use of poetic language and literary devices.

I loved your Depends Upon poem. It is so true, and when I was reading it, I thought it sounded like it should be a commercial for Apple.

Our “I wish” poems are acutally very similar! Mine talks about how I wish my puppy was here with me instead of being at home.

I really enjoyed your poems. I especially enjoyed the “so much depends upon” poem. Out of all the poems I read from everyone’s blog, I find that I am enjoying these the best because they are about something that is important to the individual. Therefore, they are going to take time and care when crafting their words. I really liked the adjectives you used and the way you described each feature of the iPod. Nicely done!
